I just fried my choke solenoid by committing an act of pure unadulterated stupidity.Does any of you guys have one laying around that they would be willing to part with?It is for a 1967 merc 500SSLS series. The carburator system is a sidebowl
back drag. I probably need both the solenoid and the plunger. If you can help me please contact me at:Dharrin1@rochester.rr.com
thanks,rolmops.

We all do stupid things. I for one have a scoring ladder 1-10,on the things I've committed. I have had a few 10's and the scars to prove it.

My "personal best" was a downhill wheelie on pavement with a Honda XR-600 at about 11pm with 2 drinks in me and a t-shirt for protection. It took about 2 weeks for all the pizza burns to go away. After about 10 years now the scars have faded away.

I still have that 600.... but use it's twin brother 250 more as I get older. Every time I pull that 600 out I darn near go over backwards as I "forget" the massive power difference for the 1st minute or two.

-W

Re: choke solenoid

So you want to know what stupidity looks like?
I was having problems with power supply to the engine -some damaged wiring - And instead of using my manual I decided to put something heavy on the choke button and start playing with the wires until I could hear the choke disengage because I pulled the right wire, thereby disconnecting the power.
Well, the solenoid did not disengage, but it did melt.
My 12 year old told me later, that if he would have done something this stupid,I would have hollered at him.He was probably right.

You know the scary part is, I'm thinking to myself, "Hey that sound like a good idea!" until I got to the the melted part.
