I was flushing my engine yesterday in the rain and was shocked when I choked the engine. All of the rubber has deteriorated from the choke switch. I was hitting the metal toggle and zap, my hands were wet. Is it because I am down to the metal with no insulator.? Thanks

Re: choke switch shocked me

I have been zapped by coil type devices of low voltage before. I assume the choke is a coil type device (electromagnet). If you were switching on a light bulb, or other non-electromagnetic item i don't believe you would get shocked (maybe a slight tingle if wet).

I think it has to do with not the turning on of the choke, but the turning OFF of it. I believe I read somewhere that when a electromechanical device gets switched off, there is a surge of energy released from the device so it would make sense that you could have been zapped.
