Choke wiring

Just installed a new complete engine Mercruiser Bravo 325hp. Replaced an 0K027540 with a Weber carb. The new engine choke wire purple/yellow near the alternator has a barrel push on connector. Does this go to the "AC tap" for the tach on the back of a Mando alternator?

Don't know if it's labelled AC tap. But the pictogram shows it is at the left side as you face the non pulley end of the alternator.

It has a "P" terminal with a clear rubber nut on that terminal. I called the dealer I bought the engine from and they said to cut the 90 degree push on terminal and crimp a ring connector on and attach it to the purple wire terminal. I really do not think that is the proper way to wire a brand new engine.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... Every electric choke I've seen is powered from the ignition circuit, 'n not the alternator,....

The dealer said at the back of the alternator attach the wire to the purple wire. That is what I did but it seems like a hack job. The engine is a new Mercruiser Bravo 5.7 325 hp. It comes complete with spark and fuel and new engine harness.

Ah, electric chokes. I wired in a relay that powers the choke when the oil pressure light goes out. I hate the choke being energized just because I turned on the key.

I am going to change the wiring as to what JK did. Seems more logical. Thanks for all the help.

Ayuh,.... Over complicatin' a simple wire attachment,......

Electric chokes are fed off the ignition circuit,....

The purple wires at the motor are the ignition circuit,....

The wire you noted is maybe a foot from the carb,....

Wirin' Problems on boats, usually start with corrosion at wirin' ends,....
How many extra wirin' ends do ya think will be added to add a relay,..??
