Started the rebuild on the Chrysler. Removed the outboard

Need to pick up a tongue jack. If all goes well maybe I'll get the top off tomorrow

I've been wondering when you would get started on her. Lookiing forward to watching her get rebuilt. How trashed was the floor and transom?

Floor is all there just a few small holes but its water soaked and will need to removed. The transom is totally shot, wood rot big time

Found the engine ID plate, wasn't on the inside lip on the sides it was inside in the front below the carbs. Model 1059HD and turns out it's a 1976

That's ALLOT of foam! Anything left of the stringers to use for a template?

Still digging, have a bunch more to remove, but the wood along with the foam is soaking wet. Been putting the foam in heavy duty trash bags and each one weights around 40 pounds or so. Hoping to save as much wood as I can for templates, but it's really starting to fall apart

Starting to look like the stringers will not be saved, or very little of them. The more I moved to the stern the heavier the foam was with more water. Can really see why Chrysler never made it as a boat manufacture, the boat was built pretty flimsy. Only cross support there was a six wide piece of fiberglass (noted in pic below) which went from port to starboard under the plywood. My guess is it was there to keep it a bit stiffer when installing the deck.

It's always amazing to me how much water can be hidding under the deck. Looks like you are making good progress. To bad about the stringers being toast.

Stripped everything out of it, only thing left is a bit of sanding and wire brush then start putting it back together. This is the largest piece of the two stringers, about 5 inch wide.

Boat sure wobbles a lot now. Going to have to make something to support it during reconstruction, otherwise just moving around will cause things to flex and come apart. Go figure the keel was wet but pretty much intact, managed to get larger sections out. It was the only piece that was surrounded by glass. The keel is 3 inch high and made from 3/4 ply. The stringers are also 3/4 ply but 5 inch high and set another 2 to 3 inches above the keel.

Grind, grind and more grind, well glass and other stuff coming in today, so I can start doing rebuild.

Was thinking about turning the boat upside down and re-gelcoat the bottom and sides before I build the stringers and transom back. It's real flimsy now, so don't know what whould be the best method.

Grinding is no fun at all! I'm not sure how long it takes gel coat to cure, or if there would be any cracking with new gel on a hull that flexes that much. It seems like it would be the ideal time to shoot new gel though. I know watching other restos I've seen members paint their boats flipped before they start their rebuilds so I would imagine the same could be done re gel coating.

Figuring I have to do it up side down because I'm using a dump gun, only works horizontal or down, Got the stuff yesterday, and the gun came in without the cleaning brush and spring clamp. Good greif

Glassed in the forward keel piece, now getting started and glassing two layers of 3/4 for the transom

I'm going to re-gelcoat it. Haven't dove in full tilt so things are going slower. Was going to flip it over and gel first, but decided to get the wood in it first so it will be a bit more ridged. It will weight a bit more

It may weigh a bit more, but having the wood for the structure in should eliminate more hull flex which should make for a better gel finish in the end. I've been keeping an eye out locally for a Conqurer. I really like the lines and it should be a fun and fast boat when she's finished.
