Had 1977 4cyl 135hp in storage many years and trying to clean up & run. The Ignition module has dripped some goop all over engine. There still is spark so I assume this is some kind of waterproofing potting material that has decomposed.

If that is correct what can I use to re-seal..
Thinking of using silicon caulking compound or bathroom silicon sealant/adhesive.

Anyone know about this problem?

Re: Chrysler 135 Magna Module GOOP

Welcome to iboats, Leeh. Your assumption is correct. If it's a black, tar-like substance, it is an HV insulator and water proofing material.
I would not be concerned with re-sealing it, as anything you attempt to use would interact with what remains, and fail. I would be more concerned with where the goo migrated to. On Mercs, this gunk causes the rotor inside old distributor-type ignition systems to jam and spin-out, like a prop hub... And the buggers are an intregal part of the dist shaft! I hate when that happens

Re: Chrysler 135 Magna Module GOOP

Error in post... t's not a CD but a Magna module.

Anyway.... the goo is not quite black and is bubbly in texture and sticky rather than tar like. Nothing I tried seems to disolve it so I have to just scrape it off.

Thanks for info and response!
Lee
