Did you install new points,or just try o set the existing points?<br />The reason I ask is, the set usually comes with the condensor. If you have to set the points closer than spec, chances are the condensor is shorted or open. You can test it in place, but unhook the wire from it,and with your ohm meter on it's highest ohms scale (preferably 1MEG OHM or higher), place the black lead on the condensor's metal case or ground. Place the red lead on the wire from the condensor. The needle should very briefly bump up,and then fall-off to nothing.<br />If it goes up and stays, or climbs slowly,instead of falling to zero,it is bad.<br />Also, try using a pull rope instead of the starter,(that is, if it AS a starter),and see if it will start easier If so, the starter is sapping too much of the battery's available power,leaving little for the ignition system.<br />If it is drawing too much power,you will have to rebuild or replace the starter.
