i got a good deal on this motor it runs great and looks like new. poped the hood and looks like it came off the show room floor. i have read that i may need a impeller and a fule pump in time. my main concern is the oil balls that come up after i run it and start fishing. it may be oil from the gas witch i hope but fear it is the lower unit seal, if so where would some one get parts for this and how do you rebuild one of these critters. my only ecsperiance with outboards. was rebuilding a golden jet. i can only hope it would be that simple.
thank you in advance

Re: chrysler 20 hp #20701 what year ?

motor is from 1967. What you are seeing is unburned fuel oil mix. In the late 60s chrysler was not worried about pollution so the crank gas that condenses will go to a drain tube on the port side of the motor where this goes to a tee valve then drains into the kingpin and down the motor leg and into the lake. You can try to decarbon the motor to reduce this but it wont help much. I have a chrysler from that same year and I drilled a 5/16 hole in the lower cowl. Disconnected the hose going to the kingpin and put a longer fuel line to run out the hole I drilled and taped a small plastic jar to catch this fuel. It looks like crap but I am less embarrased by the stream of gas I left in my wake. You could have a lower unit leak but I doubt it. To verify that is good untighten the lower fill hole on the lower unit (this has a slotted head and is about the size of a dime) Loosen it enough so a few drops come out. If water comes out you have a leak. If something similar to a white milk shake comes out you have a leak. If it is dark it is unburned gas you are seeing.
