I replaced the fuel pump diaphragm and thought that would fix it. Nope, now I seem to have little or no spark at the plugs.
Whats the best way to check it all out?

Always help us help you with Brand, Year Model, past history and past/present steps you have performed. The more you share the more we might relate with what could be happening.

Right, It's a 45 hp Chrysler, 1979 model. I bought it a couple mos. ago and it ran fine. I put it in an old Ozark 20 footer and
it did pretty good for awhile, just ran a little rough. Then I ran out of gas and when I filled 'er up again it wouldn't start. I
replaced the fuel filter diaphragm because it looked pretty shot, but it still wont start and I'm thinking I've lost my spark
somehow. Now, this engine would start so fast you couldn't get your finger off the key and it was running. So I know that
the timing and wiring had to be just about perfect before this.

When you say gas I hope you mean 2 cycle mix.... I would start looking at all the wire connections first....check the coils for cracks...Might be your points, sheared flywheel key....Just so many things can give you a no start condition. Have you tried squirting some fuel mix in the carb to rule out a fuel delivery problem?

Are you saying you h/n checked it for spark with the plugs pulled and grounded vs thinking it?s a spark issue? Spark, Fuel and Compression make it run. Check all with a quick test to get pointed in the directions of what could be the problem.

1. A good prime with pre-mix from the tank should allow you to fire-up a second if fuel blockage is the issue.
2. A good blue spark from the engine?s metal grounded plugs pulled should indicate fire or not.
3. A compression test on the 2 cyl of 100 psi and greater would let you know if compression is the problem.

Since the problem started with fuel issues that would be a suspect IMO. Running rough before could be fuel or all.

Good Luck!

You might also check your fuel lines. I was having problems with my 1980 45 hp chrysler and finally changed out the fuel line and primer bulb, which looked fine just by looking at them, and the motor started right up. Like what was said above you can check to see if it is a fuel delivery problem by squirting some mixed gas straight into the carb. Hope this helps.
