Hello All,
i have a 1971 Chrysler 45hp outboard model number 454BC.
I am getting intermittent spark on the lower cylinder. These are the things I have done so far:
Gapped both points to .020 and filed them using a point file.
Switched condensers with the same results.
Checked all wires and connection points for state and tightness.
Cleaned the connection points on the flywheel and the blocks inside the coils.

I get great spark on the upper cylinder, and the motor will idle and rev in neutral fantastic but will not rev high under load, I'm guessing because of the low to no spark on the lower cylinder. After swapping the plugs and condensers I get the exact same results. Not sure if there is an issue with the large orange coils under the flywheel or the connection points between the flywheel and square blocks in the middle of the coils. Any help would be amazing.

Thanks for that suggestions, the coils are big orange blocks, I can't seem to figure out how they come off. It looks like there is a clip sort of where they slide on to the metal square, do they slide off that?

Yes there is a spring clip that secure the coil to the iron core and you pull the clip out to loose the coil.
Before you swap the coil with the other check the spring in the HT wire rubber boot at the failing cylinder.
They tend to rust and get bad connection.
If you swap the coils you have to have the HT wire intact cause they are clued in the coil, you can not pull them off the coil.
If you have VOM you can measure the resistance in the primer and secondary winding.
Prime side should be 0,5-1,5 Ohm and secondary side 5-8 kOhm.
Prime side is the thin wire to ground, secondary is HT wire to ground.
