Chrysler 55 HP right size?

I have a 14' Glass Magic currently being restored, but I don't have a motor. I came across a Chrysler 55 HP motor that I'm looking at purchasing. But I have 2 questions:
1- The rating on the boat says 50 HP max for the boat, so I'm a bit nervous if 55 HP is too much, or if it will be ok.

2- Are the Chrysler motors reliable? I also saw a post that said that parts are pretty difficult to find for these motors. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

5hp won't hurt a bit.Just remove the sticker.
The Chrysler motor was has been around for a long time. The parts are still avaiable for most things that go bad.
Simple to work on and simple to maintain.
Regular maint.will make it last a long time.
They are a lot harder on gas than a newer Mercury.J

Re: Chrysler 55 HP right size?

I am a new boat owner so as to the 55hp question I would not think 5hp would matter that much. But as to the Force motor, I have a 1988 Bass Trophy with a 1988Force 125hp motor and so far with help from here and a manual it has been easy to work on and parts can be gotten thru any Merc. dealer or online. I picked up a few things tonight on ebay but I knew the part numbers I needed and they were listed as Force w/ the part number and I saved about 20.00 and 25.00 on each part.

Re: Chrysler 55 HP right size?

I have an older Glastron 14 foot boat.
Max rating on the boat is 45HP

I picked up a 55HP Chrylser outboard.

No problems what so ever with the 55 on the boat. Pushes the boat along nicely. I'm just rough guessing here, But I figure I'm going 20-25 mph with my boat depending on water/wind conditions.

Bolt it up and go!
