hi guys
I've got a chrysler 55 (559hf) which i need a lot of help with. I have a manual for it which isn't offering much help, good if you want to pull the thing apart and put it back together, but not for diagnosing faults, anyway
1. is there anyway i can test to see if my magna ignition box is faulty mod-9cgo ser#-19658. I'm an electronics technician so i have access to descent meters.
2.only one of my plugs is igniting (the bottom one). the coils are fine as i replaced the input cable (from the magna box) from the coil that was firing to the coil that wasn't and that one began to fire. does this mean my ignition box is dead or could there be another reason for this.
3.there is a purple wire coming out of my rectifier that the manual says goes to the generator. where is the generator located? is this a seperate part to the motor? if i don't have a generator do i need one or can i just leave the wire unconnected?
anyhelp would be gratefully appreciated
thanks
dan
i bought this motor second hand, the guy said it started but he was having troubles with it. hasn't been started for over a year.

Re: chrysler 55 won't start

Rectifier or stator failure would more than likely, kill the whole thing. Pull the wires from the trigger and see if you have the proper resistance accross both coils (sorry, don't have book, can't help with values, only procedure).
while in the book, find out what the pulse voltage is.
Also, try transposing the two coils of the trigger to the CD unit.If the missing pulse moves to the other coil, the trigger is shot. If it specs-out, you'll then be safe in assuming the CD unit is defective (check for spotless-shiny connections first tho).
But for all I know, this model has points under the flywheel instead of a trigger. No matter, if points, check the points.
