Hi there,

I am new to iboats, but i have been reading up on my newly acquired Chrysler 55HP 557HG, which is from 1975 I believe.

The engine runs fairly well for sitting for at least a year. I just has to clean the points up a little bit. I am going to take the outboard and a 13ft "aquarian" for its maiden voyage in a few weeks(after I repair the transom)...

But before then I am going to replace the impeller, and replace the lower unit oil. But I have a few questions,

1) Other than the impeller itself, are there any parts I need/should get?
2) Is any outboard gear oil okay to use? Or is there one that performs better?
3) The engine has been sitting for a year plus, any other preventive maintenance that should be done?

Thanks in advance everyone!

Re: Chrysler 557HG Impeller

1. Please look at the info at the top on frequent ask question, there is detail info by Frank.

2. Run an advance search at the top, ?wickware? user name, "water pump" Keyword and there will be info 35 ? 55hp Chryslers. Years of info and attachments.

3. A Clymer Manual will answer most basic questions. I found three at our local Library that varied good info..
