1977 Starcraft Boats Capri 15
This Starcraft outboard runabout has a fiberglass hull, is 15.17 feet long and 74 inches wide at the widest point. The boat weighs approximately 773 pounds with an empty fuel tank and without any gear or passengers. The maximum horsepower we have listed for this outboard boat is 85 hp

The above I found on iboats. I have a 1977 starcraft Capri 15 trihull, open bow. (above boat). The engine is a 1977 Chrysler 55HP. Does the above weight of boat (773) include weight of motor? If I wanted to get an engine of higher HP. It also states an engine no higher then 85HP. Being this is an old boat is the max engine HP rating determined by engine weight. I want to stay with a Chrysler being this is my first boat and I've learned so much here about my Chrysler engine. I would think engines weigh less now. Hope I am not to confusing. Basically if I were to put an engine on this boat that was higher then 85HP and it weighed as little as and 85HP is that ok? How much does my 55HP weigh? It is a 1971 55HP model no:557HC serial no: 3188 What is the max allowable weight for this boat?
Thanks
Hector

Re: Chrysler 55hp outboard motor weight

At 156 pounds, (magneto ignition, electric start) that was the lightest 55 ever made by any manufacturer during that period.

A Chrysler 85 will weigh about 275 pounds.

If your boat is rated for an 85, it will take it provided that the transom is sound.

Total weight that the boat can carry, including engine is stated on the capacity plate. This capacity is independent of the hull weight and will be stated as so many persons at 150 pounds per person OR 1000 pounds (example) persons engine and gear. Thus: the weight at 773 is (or should be)without the engine.
