Please post some pictures that will show carb and cable relation to your question. Attach is an example of my ref off my 1970 35 HP Chrysler. Pics can tell a lot, such as, is your neutral switch compressed in the cranking process and etc? If it ran a second it is but some other related fuel questions are:
1. Is the fuel tank vent open, the primer bulb is hard, shows good action in the fuel pump?s glass bowl (if it has one)?
2. Have you tried manually priming the engine with some of your 50:1 fuel mix?
3. Is your choke working during the cranking mode from pushing the key in while cranking or etc?
4. Have you checked the fuel pump?s diaphragm for cracks excessive stretching?
5. Do you have any history of how the engine ran last?
6. Have you checked the plugs for good blue sparks? When was it tuned last with a good ignition inspection?
