chrysler 70hp 707hf lower unit parts

gmorn i have a question regarding my lower unit maybe some one can help,i took my lower unit of to replace the water pump and when i did i found what looks like a rubber boot (like that of a cv joint on a car) just laying in there looks like it's been there for some time, i can't find a diagram of the unit to see were it suppose to go,of course i don't have a service manual which would prob help but i don't do much major repairs or should say haven't ever learned how,any way question is were does it go?

It sounds like the seal for driveshaft spline. It should be compressed by the retainer on top of the driveshaft to the end of the crankshaft.
This is to protect the spline in crankshaft and driveshaft from water and starting to rust.

Partnumber retainer F 438271 and seal (rubber boot) F 438129.
They both look NA but you can live with out them.
Coat the spline with antiseize or waterproof grease. But do not coat on top of driveshaft.
It can make the driveshaft not to go all way in to the crankshaft.
