Chrysler 75 hp Distributor cap gasket?

I wonder if the cap gasket (#14030) under the distributor cap has an important
funktion? Can something bad happen if I don`t use it?
What is the thickness of the gasket?

F14020-1 Can be found on Ebay from $7.25 to $30
Ebay # 173114838757 is the cheapest one.

But you can run without it.
It is a moisture seal and should be used.

I had to order one of those a few weeks ago.....when I found that my distributor cap didn't have one either.....although it had been running for years without one. Like Jerry said, it helps to keep moisture out.
