I have a 75 hp Chrysler ser.#1464 model#758h3f outboard. I had guy look at it and it all points to the brain box or elec. ignition box. Not sure what it is called. He siad it could be switched to manual ignition but it dose not have points in it so it would be tougher. My question is how much would a new box cost or is there a easier way to replace or find used.I live in Appleton,WI.This guy has had many Chrysler motors and switched them over so he would iliminate the electonic ign. What would be the best way to go? Thank You

Edje,

According to my manual, you have the type III Presolite ignition system. So you should have 2 ignition modules.

I believe you can buy one new for $200-$300. I bought one on Ebay a few months ago (used of course) for $49.95. It is on my motor now and works fine. You just have to keep your eyes open.

Shane

I see the one on ebay and it looks like the cdi box(brain box) is either different or the year is. Do you know if this would work. Thank you

Do you have a distributor on your engine?

If so the box you may require is a F523301

That is the old part number but it will SS up to the new one. They sell for 360.00 here in Canada and its recommended that you change the Coil aswell. Which sells for 115.00.

There is a way to test the box and coil on the engine. If yours is that box...let me know I will send you the directions.

TMD

Re: Chrysler 75HP 1983 outboard(Electronic Ignition)

I have been doing some studying and found the number on the back of the CDI box is 6cb2012b by Motorola. The new part # 115-3301 which comes w/a new coil for 275$from outboardparts.com should match up. Now my problem is I don't want to blow a new one if there is something else wrong.I have done some minimal tests w/ the equipment I have also imfo from outboardparts .com trouble shooting . But I am still worried because I don't know how to test the trigger or strator. I had called around town for prices and one of the shop guys said I shouldn't put a new one in w/out testing which I agree, but I read alot of these cdi's blow out from low voltage. Which may have been my case, because this boat I have aquired has not been ran for 3-4 years and while redoing the inside and getting the motor to run good I had ran the battery down a couple times to a very low voltage. After having it out once, it ran very well but after stopping a couple times and restarting. It wouldn't start,I checked for spark and there was nothing. The guy I had look at it said the coil was good and it had very good compression. The distributor looked good and it does not have points in it,because this guy had changed his previous motors by illiminating this box,but his had points in them. So i ordered the new part, which I forgot to add while doing these tests smoke had came out of this box 3-4 times so I figure the box is toast forsure. Any other imfo or advice would help greatly. THANK YOU P.S. I think this site is awsome and very helpfull!!! Edje
