Help!
I have a 1969 Chrysler 9.9 with low hours. My problem is that it runs great a high rpm's but on low rpm and also medium rpm it goes hummmmm pop
humm pop pop sounds like a back fire. I have installed new plugs and rebuilt the carb with no results. Is there ponts on these engines or just a magneto? What should I try?

Re: Chrysler 9.9

Kevin,Your symtoms sound like a classic lean condition.Try a little choke if it helps then your short on gas.
Probably still a little dirt in the low speed.
I believe your motor uses points. You could clean and adjust. But if it starts good they are probably ok.
Get a manual,Try the library,the bottom of the page,NAPA auto parts,amazon.com,ebay etc.

Re: Chrysler 9.9

The engine has a point gap of .020 and the listed spark plug is the Champion L4J which they don't make anymore. NGK has a replacement plug but, I forgot what # it is. I think it's the B6HS. You might also want to check out the puddle valve(s). It's a combustion case drain valve that causes problems at low speed.
