Hi all :) I?m wiring up my Chrysler control box for the first time, as was wondering if you could please tell me if I have everything wired to the correct places, before I hook up the battery and test. I don?t want to short anything or blow anything up?

I have a Chrysler magneto system (45hp - model #455HC)
It?s worth noting that with exception of the ?I terminal? all wires are in the same place they were on the old control box I replaced- and that worked OK. My main question is if I have the correct stuff hooked to that ?I terminal? ? before there was nothing hooked to it, and I want to have it so that the 12v dashboard accessories come on when the key is turned.

Also the tach and the overheat buzzer are new additions- the system didn?t have those before- so hoping I have those wired correctly.
Here?s how it?s wired now:

B Terminal - Red wire (battery)
C Terminal ? Green wire (choke)
S Terminal ? Yellow wire (start)
M Terminal ? Light Blue wire (ignition)
I terminal ? to 12 volt accessories/dashboard (and also to one lead from my overheat buzzer, other buzzer wire goes to my orange overheat sensor wire)
M terminal ? White wire (ignition/tach) (and also one wire from this going to my tach, other tach wire goes to ground)

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for you help :)
best, Pat

Re: Chrysler control box wiring help

You are wired correctly. Everything should work as you want it to. Except maybe for the tach. I could never get a tach to work properly on my magneto ignition 55. If you have a choice on the tach, set the adjuster to 1 power pulse per rev.

hi Frank :)

Thanks you SO much! i really do appreciate it!
hopefully the tach might work... we'll see... i have it set on 1 pulse.
its an old aquameter- looks good on the old dash anyways

is it ok to wire a fuse to the pulse hot wire?

all the best to you :) pat

Aqua Meter was the one I had trouble with. I even returned it to the factory twice and they said it was functioning perfectly. It always read about 1/2 the actual RPM no matter what I did. Anyway, do not put a fuse in line with the pulse wire--it won't do anything.

Re: Chrysler control box wiring help

Good evening everyone, I hope someone can help me.
I have just bought an old Chrysler 30hp 2 stroke electric start which also has a pull cord, although someone has taken it off!
i don?t know how old the engine is, but i?m guessing 70?s.
On the engine plate it says model number ? 307111D, and serial number ? 1173.
Can anyone tell me how old the engine is?
Also i have a wiring problem, someone has replaced the wiring with caravan wire black cable, although there are white, yellow, green, red, blue and a black cable, also a brown, I managed to connect it up to the ignition switch and I can start the engine, but can?t turn it off as it carries on running, the only way I can stop the engine is by pushing the key inwards which seems to activate the butterfly flap on the carb and closes it which does stop the engine, I assume this isn?t correct?
The ignition switch does seem to be a bit past it, as you can use it without putting the key in, but I have tested it and it seems to be ok, I can?t find any sort of kill switch, and does this engine have battery charging or not?
Even with the engine stopped, if I push the key inwards it makes the butterfly flap close?
sorry for all the questions, been scratching my head all day, and it now hurts!
I need help people.
Thanks
Mike
