Afriend just gave me a 16 ft Chrysler Fury boat with a 60 hp motor attached to it. Was this a good move or should I have run? He was going to call the junk yard to haul it away if someone didn't take it. I'm into boating with a larger boat but this is my first outboard. It's only money. I don't plan on leaving any behind.

No, the boat hasn't been in the water since 1993 and the engine is not 100% together. That's no problem, I think. I plan on rebuilding the engine and was looking for someone who has had previous experience. I looks like a simple engine from the repair manuals I have been reading. Plus I have access to a machine shop and that should help. Again, I was looking for boaters who have had or have these Chrysler boats.I need to know how the gas tanks were installed and where the battery was located and held in place.

Re: chrysler fury

I owned a Chrysler outboard for many years.
They are an inexpensive, simple engine. With good care you can get a lot of sevice out of them. Not a real popular engine with some folks.

Chrysler begat Force which was bought out by Mercury. Check for parts availibilty with a local Merc dealer. The thing I would be most concerned with is the electronic ignition modual, if so equipped. My 75 HP Force set me back $350.00 or so when it went out.

Is the Fury a tri-hull or what? 60 HP is on the anemic side for a 16 foot boat. Check the plate on the boat (should be by the helm) for maximum HP. My 15 foot tri hull was rated for 85HP max and ran fine with a 75 HP Chrysler.

You may want to look at buying a used, larger HP motor to put on this boat. Cost wise could end up about the same. Make sure the transom depth is about the same or you may have to buy an leg extension. No big deal there. Make sure the transom is not rotted when you swap out the motor.

Good Luck.
