Chrysler idling too high...

hi all, I am trying to get my chrysler 45hp to idle down a little more and can't seem to do so. the book says it should be around 900 in forward. the lowest i can get it is around 1200 with the idle needle in the front of the carb before it runs rougher. the screw with the locknut on the side of the motor does absolutely nothing all the way in or out. i am checking it with a automobile tach set for two cycle, this should be accurate, right? Anything I am missing? Thanks,

Rich

Rich, it's been a lot of years since I had a Chrysler (55 HP), but I would bet you were moving the timing adjustment, not the idle stop. The tach is probably OK. Are you checking the RPM in gear with the motor in the water (not on a hose adapter)? Be absolutely sure it's the idle stop you are adjusting. If the timing has been changed, you need a manual for the procedure to set it.

Good luck.

ok Rich, try this, on the side of the carb is the throttle arm. the black plastic roller is on a ecentric (off set screw) loosen the lock nut on the back side of the arm and turn the screw to adjust your idle
