Chrysler. ?Install a cheap, plastic, disposable fuel filter BETWEEN the fuel pump and carbs, do not depend on the strainer on the fuel pump.?

1. Are filters between the fuel pump and carb ?mainly? to catch parts of a bad diaphragm, trash from the tank, both? My disposable filter has always been between the tank and fuel pump. It verify the flow of fuel to the fuel pump if needed w/o pulling the cover to see the bowl. I possibly need 2 filters.

2. Is the attached stretched fuel pump?s diaphragm a good example of one that ?will cause problems or not necessarily?? This is one that was posted vs mine.

Yes! the filter is to catch pieces of a shedding or broken diaphragm. (too bad there wasn't one for my wife--I wouldn't have had three kids! LOL)

It also catches possible brass shavings from a damaged valve.

That diaphragm does not show obvious damage from what I can see, but it does look like it is getting hard and it is time to replace it. Three bucks--cheap. replace the gasket too.

I should be more specific with my question concerning a stretched but not hard or cracked diaphragm.

1. Will it cause hesitation out of the hole or stumble from a dead start?

2. Will it affect holding a WOT?

3. Please add more affects, if I did not ask enough questions on a diaphragm not as tight as a rubber band.

4. I am trying to learn more vs hesitating changing a diaphragm.

Thanks!
