I am looking into buying a boat with a STAR 50hp outboard. Information online about STAR is scant. Is there anyone out there who can tell me some about this engine? I am interested mostly in how reliable they are. Can I get parts for this outboard? Thank you.

Welcome aboard.

Click this for a little info.

The Star motor is an old Chrysler or Force motor. It's the same as Mercury Tracker motors, branding by decal and that's it. In this case, The Star is a re-branded Chrysler motor for Starcraft.

Reliability is the same as other 30 year old motors. Some parts are getting hard to find.

Thank you. That is what I assumed but that can get a guy in trouble. I appreciate the link. It helped plenty.

Welcome,
Under the cowl is a tag with model and serial #s
You can post them or go to Mastertechmarine and figure out what you have.

That motor is ALL Chrysler and just has a "fancy" name.
The Tracker used some Forces and eventually Mercury.
The "hard" parts can still be found, service is another thing??
About the only places that will work on them are the guy's with shade trees.
Not many dealers will touch them.

It's going on 35 or 40 years old so be careful and if it comes from a state with salt water?? Think about it?
