During correspondence yesterday I found out that back in the day Chrysler made a V6, 150 Horsepower engine. Since it was a distributor engine, it would have been around 1978. No other information available at this time. Slick, huh? That's one I would jump at. Too bad Chrysler was forced out of the marine business by the government.

Re: Chrysler V6

I have just joined the iboats forum groups after "lurking" for a couple of years. Rather than retire at ripe old age of 48 I purchase a boat repair business at Raytown Lake in PA. The previous owner of 30 plus years was a Chrysler and Force dealer. Your post has intrigued me because with the purchase of the business came ALL the tools, manuals, and thousands of Chrysler parts. For the past 8+ years my wife, son and myself have become known in the area as the people to see if you have a problem with your Force motor, OMC motor, or Chrysler motor. The mega boat stores actually refer customers to us.
I will scour through the hundreds of books and literature that are stored here and see if I can find anything for you. I will also help any members that may need diagrams or part #s. Yes, all the parts books are here too.

Re: Chrysler V6

Send me your business phone in a private message--I don't think you are allowed to post it on the open forum. My friend and I are retired and have a small repair business. Sometimes we need to source Chrysler/Force parts, so why not do it with a Pa business?

Re: Chrysler V6

HEY! I though you were leaving! LOL.

On reflection, when I first saw the photo, I thought it was an OMC block mounted on a Chrysler leg. However, the person told me it was a Chrysler engine. Looking closely, you can see the electronic box is labeled FORCE, and there are a lot of Chrysler parts like distributor, fuel pumps, flywheel, starter, and electrical terminal block HOWEVER: The block is mounted on an older Chrysler leg with paint damage to the cowling. The engine block and cowl do not match, the distributor is jury rigged to the block, and Chrysler would never put something like this on show.

So, I believe it may be a custom job by a racer or fan.

I sure would like to know more about this engine though.

Frank - Did Chrysler have a Skunkworks type of development shop? The castings look "too nice" be be someone's backyard project. The fuel pump bosses are clearly set up for Chrysler style pumps (2 at that). The carbs look unique, too.

Are those fresh photos or from "back in the day"? I wonder where this motor is now? Have you posted over at Scream & Fly?

Re: Chrysler V6

Well, the guy said it was a V6 Looper that made the dealership rounds in the early 1980s. I don't know where or when the photos were taken but the background does look like a show. And yes, the block and related castings do look professional. My main question is the condition of the cowling--it just doesn't seem that a demo engine would be mounted on an old cowl with the rubber gasket cut in front and paint chipped off.

Re: Chrysler V6

The block looks very familiar to early V6 Merc blocks although you will recognize the fuel pump set up as a Force 150 with the dual pumps. The shift and throttle cable connections appear to be Force/Chrysler. There is no linkage to the carbs from the linkage hook up. I agree, the cowling is quite beat up for being a show piece. I could not find anything in my books and manuals ( I only got through half of them) I will check and see if there are any promotional flyers stashed away somewhere.
Nordin, let me know what you need.

Re: Chrysler V6

Boatdoc58 I am an outboardfan in Sweden Europ? and I love Chrysler/Force OB. In my freetime I maintain, rebulid and so on OB for other people that need help.
I am most interested in parts for MAG II ign. because it is hard to find and obslete.
Chrysler/Force OB are not so common here so it is not so easy to find junk Engines. The MAG II ign. can be change into Prestolite typ system but as I said, not so common with junk Engines for parts.
I will send you a private mail later.

Re: Chrysler V6

Mag II parts are hard to come by ANYWHERE and my supply is dwindling so when I get a Chrys./Force in that has "ventilated the block and the customer buys another motor or complete powerhead to rebuild we will strip the old block and keep the parts, especially the ones to convert mag II to prestolite.
Sorry Frank, we didn't mean to "hijack" your thread.
