Re: chrysler what year
The belt drives a distributor. That puts it at earlier than 1979 or possibly 80. If it has the one piece lower unit with the water pick-up slots on the side of the gearcase torpedo, flare washer, and long tapered tailcone held on with a screw, then it is later as in 1978-79. These models had a plain hood with decals for the logo. The plastic trim on the hood will be plain and painted.
If it has a two piece lower unit with water pick-ups on the side above the torpedo, with screening inside them, and the rear part tapers down to the cavitation plate, the tailcone is relatively short, screws onto the prop shaft, and held with a cotter pin, then it is about 1975 to 1978. These older models had a bulge along each side of the bottom of the hood with a metal plate and the logo 85 CHRYSLER on each side. The front plastic trim will have a recessed metal piece. Most of these models had a two-tone paint job if I remember correctly. If it has an electronic distributor, then it is most certainly a later model (at least the block).
If the lower unit drops almost straight to the cavitation plate which is smaller and more rounded, then it is earlier than 75. Really early models (late 60s) had a sort of push button release on the top rear of the hood and metal hood trim pieces.
Inside the engine, below where the fuel line and control cables enter, there will be (should be) an aluminum plate with the model and serial number. Model number will begin with 85 unless the hood was swapped.
