Hi there I am a first time poster and need some help. I have a 1980 30 hp model307hoc. I recently fried the red and earth (black) wires coming from the rectifier to the circuit breaker and then on to the terminals. I replaced these wires but now the power is shorting around the terminals in the engine when trying to start the engine. Is there anything else I may have fried? Or something I should look at to solve the problem. Any advice would be really appreciated.

Well I dont fully understand the "shorting around the terminals "...bit ....dont use the terminals if its on the connections strip ..make a tempary direct connection...
It goes like this ...
You have a coil under the flywheel that generates about 16v ..this is fed to the rectifier to it AC terminals .....the neg teminal on the rectifier goes to earth and the Pos (red ) goes via the circuit breaker to re charge the battery ....do you have your + on the wrong solenoid terminal ? are you using two linked terminals on the connection strip .....I have the 30 hp without the charging system whish I had yours !!!

Thanks for the reply. I managed to find a wiring diagram for the motor last night. Turns out I had attached the positive lead to the starter motor on the wrong terminal on the starter relay. That's what was causing the short. So all good now. Back on the water this weekend!
