Picked up a 1975 Chrystler 8 hp from a neighbor last week and the recoil is broken. Going to take it apart this AM but not sure where to source parts for it. Is there a good on-line supplier for this.

Thanks Stan

Watch out for Fairwinds -- although they may indeed have the part.

If the spring is broken, check with NAPA. They may have it (have some recoil springs for other makes -- not sure about the Chrysler.) Former Force and current Mercury dealers/parts shops may be able to get the part.

Thanks for the quick response,... and warning. I Started the motor for the first time this afternoon and it ran ok , except no water was pumping out the exhust. Quick shut down and to the library tomorrow to get a manual on where they put the waterpump. Im new at outboard motors and just learning this stuff. And yes I think it is the spring broken and will ck with a dealer or NAPA. thanks for the info again and have a good week.

stan

Here's a good tip on these old Chrysler portables. The starter pinion and the recoil are common with the OMC 9.9. Strange but true.
