One more time. A Chyrstler 130 water pump has a single slotted stainless steel plate that the impeller rides on. Due to it haveing only one slot in the plate it is possible to get it fliped over so it is in backwards (the plate).
By haveing this in wrong it will not pump the water needed to cool the motor at an Idol.
It wont start pumping the volume that is needed until it gets turneing faster.
If it is not the plate then you have a leak around your water pump houseing or the shaft seal on top of the houseing is leaking.
Did you cover the splined end of the shaft with tape BEFORE you slid the houseing over it ? If you did not use something to protect the rubber seal then there is a chance you have little cuts in the seal and it will leak.
Older Outboard motors only has the single slotted plates.
There isnt very many reason it only cools at wot other than a leakey houseing or a plate placed in improperly.
Just take a look at it.
