Hi Guys, I have a 88 force 85hp engine that runs great except at times after engine is running and cut off with ignition switch it will not turn over. The first time this happend I noticed the rear circut breaker located on left side of engine was poped up. I pushed the reset back down and it started and ran fine for a couple of days and then it did the same thing again. I checked ground at battery and all wiring on engine looks brand new. Any ideas why this happens? Any chance the circut breaker could be bad? It is a 25 amp breaker I believe. The front one (closest to boat) never trips.

Check the wires on the terminal and rectifier and make sure the hots arent shorted on anything and make sure no loose grounds are touching any hot wires.

I've been working on these Forces since 1985 and never had a breaker pop!!!
If there are any bad connections.Ground on the motor.Any wires rubbed bare and grounding.
If it's the starter circut it might be time to rebuild/clean the starter.
Fill out the profile you might be close to someone who can help.J

Thanks for the info. I forgot to mention I had a new starter put in. I also changed the silinoid and have not taken it out since then. I will keep looking for a loose ground or wires touching.

you are looking for something that increases the current ..a loose ground will not do that . A short ..ie live touching the casing will pop it instantly.....if the load on it is near its max setting then it may pop if the load is held for sufficient time
