On my home lake there are several boat ramps located right next to bridges. It's pretty common here to tie up under the bridge and catch catfish at night. My little boat isn't equipped for lights and I'm not interested in doing any wiring if I don't have to. My goal is to safely and legally get from the boat ramp to the bridge at night which is no more than 300 yards. I have no interest in doing any other night boating than this. Would some clamp-on lights work for me in this application?

Here's some I found:

http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cg...y=electric>light>navigation&*******=852074614

Re: Clamp on lights.

Follow the boating regs and make sure your white stern light is visible from all directions.

Re: Clamp on lights.

I found the lights at Wal-Mart and bought them. The front light clamps on fine and seems sturdy enough.

The rear light is another story. The way the pole attaches to the clamp is very poorly engineered. The light, loaded with 2 D cells it pretty hefty. The attachment point at the clamp is weak. without adding some strength here it's going to either break or just flop over. With a little drilling and a couple of bolts I should be able to make an improvement. In the end, I think it'll be fine.

Re: Clamp on lights.

On my jonboat I use a cheep bow light and use one of the jump start batteries. The all around light is my coleman lantern on a pole. Works great.
