I need to clamp some 1.25" square tube onto the 4" x 2" trailer longitudinal beams. (to add guide-ons)
If I just use a single U bolt, this would be diagonal across both items, ... is that enough ... or is the Guide-on upright likely to twist if nudged ?

I thought about fitting 2 U bolts in a crossover 'X' ... but this would have top U bolt simply clamping down on the first U bolt ... it would not have good contact with the 1.25" tube ?

Is there a better way ... don't want to drill or weld as it would spoil Galv, and trailer takes salt water bath every weekend

Re: Clamping Guide-ons

The crossed u-bolt method is kind of the standard for that size guide-on and tubing. I had this on my trailer that was 3" high x 2" wide. I wasn't thrilled with the crossed u-bolts method so I found some cross members on my trailer that were predrilled with 3/8" holes. I ended up drilling the 1 1/4" guide-on tubes and mounting them with 2 bolts each 6" on center. They are way sturdy and would take a huge hit to knock or spin them off the trailer frame. Here is a pic as to where I mounted them:

here is a picture of mine, the bar sets on top of the frame, then it has a bracket over it and the two u-bolts come up from the bottom.
but one of the u-bolts has a dimmple(the same size of the u-bolt) in it where it crosses the other one so it makes more contact on the frame.
