Greetings. My boat is powered by a 1980's 45hp "classic 50". Wish to add temp, tach, to it. Is this difficult?? I have some kind of "cannon" plug coming out of the throttle control box. Is this for gauges? Thanks for any help. Norm II

The cannon plug should have +12VDC, Ground and Tach sender. You may use it to power all gauges(fuel, tach, speedo...).

Normally those inline motors do not have thermostats, so a temp gauge is useless. A water pressure gauge is a whole lot more useful.

Thanks Chris. No thermostat... Bummer!! I'm getting a overheat "buzzer", and with a decent "stream" that I can hold my hand under for a bit (not scalding), I'd like to know what's going on. Was hoping a temp gauge would enlighten me... and a tach will help me with a better prop. Way too much pitch, and motor overloaded. Cannon plug has 5 wires coming out of it. I guess the plug is designed for a "Mercury" tach (4cyl)?? Or can I modify and use another more "cost friendly" tach. Thanks again. Norm II
