Cleaning built in gas tank

I have a Bayliner with o/b motor and built in gas tank. The tank has not been cleaned out in at least 2 years, and I'd like to do it now, by myself. Not having done this before, I have questions.<br /><br />Is there a protocol to it? You siphon off the fuel, and what happens next? Is there a way to look inside to ascertain conditions? (Besides coming in with a lit match to look!) Is there an additive that can be used to help protect the tank? What about filters?<br /><br />I have not found a manual that I can use as a guide. Your boat should have an access panel or opening so you can get to the sending unit. If you remove the sending unit, you can change the sock over the end of the pickup. You may also be able to get your hand inside to wipe out and inspect.

Tanks do not require cleaning unless you have a problem. I would leave it alone.
