I recently purchased a 1974 4hp mercury motor off Craigslist.com. I saw the motor run before I bought it. It came with a 3gal metal gas tank 2/3 full of gas. The seller told me he put stabilizer in the gas. Today I decided to put fresh gas mixture in it. I was never so surprised to see what came out of the tank. I'm surprised the motor ran at all.The inside of this tank is coated with contamination . Is there any way of cleaning the tank without spending more than the tank is worth? all suggestions appreciated.
