Has anyone used a power washer to clean dirty pontoon carpet?? I was looking at a used pontoon that had dingy looking carpet and was thinking that a power washer could help break up some of the dirt.

Would this be a bad idea?? and Why.

Saturating and brushing with a good cleaner or stain remover would probably be more effective.A strong power washer can actually damage the carpet .Charlie

Not saying Charlie's wrong - likely is right but I've used the car wash wand on two bass boats and a 1750 psi power washer on my old (24 yrs) Lund carpet with great success. I'm probably lucky, but sure is a bunch less time.

If it's still adheared well, I'd give it a whirl -I used Dawn dish wash mixed pretty strong w/h2O and suds up the floor liberally to de-gunk my Lund - thought I was going to have to replace the carpet but it cleaned up great.

Pick a sunny day when you can let'er have plenty of dry time.

But... as a warranty/disclaimer: if it breaks in half you own both pieces!! LOL

Car wash always worked well on mine. Really gets into the places a regular hose can't and you can use the soap setting on it at the same time for better cleaning.(Bring LOTS of quarters) Has never hurt my carpet that I know of and I did this to my last toon for over 10 years every time I left the lake headed for home. It was always dry by the time I got there(150 Mile trip, though)...

We use a carwash, a scrub brush, and Joy dish detergent. I'm sure that Dawn would clean better, but the Joy is non-phosphate, so my wife insists.
