I recently got a bass boat for free from my grandpa. It a mid 80s performance. Not looking to dump alot of money into it. I have a nice boat I dump enough money into. Just want to use this one to fish. But he parked it 7 years ago and let it sit. He had one of his friends clear coat it before letting it sit. Which turned to junk. I removed the clear coat flaking, and sanded down with 800 grit wet/dry. Lots of spiderswebbing. I don't want to repaint it if possible. But need someone with some wisdom to advise me. can I add another clear gel coat over the original? If so what kind? Does it need sprayed on can it be brushed on? Will it hold up? Or Is there a better alternative?

is it gel or is it paint
clear anything doesnt have a lot of UV stabilizers so they fail after time
can you ad good over bad and have it last - no
you can spray or brush
will it hold up - probably not
best alternative would be to sand it down and prep for a repaint. or if you just want to fish out of it, use it as is.

it's a gel. Was wanting to do something to keep it from further withering away.

clear gel has a finite life unless you leave it covered most of the time.

I have garage space for it. My tahoe is great it's never seen sun except for when it's been on water. And looks as good as the day I bought it. I just hate to do nothing to this boat and let it further decay, chip, crack, and fall apart. If I could find something to coat it to keep it intact for a few more years. Realistically I'll probably get bored one winter and take it down and repaint. Just not something I want to take on at this moment
