Re: cleaver prop?

you will be able to go in reverse but you will crawling to one side ten times more then normal. It will also take more throttle to get the same response in forward. What size and type is your boat? What hp; engine; propsize; cleaver prop size.

By the way if you have a pontoon.... Don't waist your money on a cleaver.

the boat is 14ft, i have smart tabs on it now but the pic doesnt show it. the motor is a 50hp evinrude (small gearcase), i'm running a 11 3/4x17 michigan prop, the prop i'm looking at is 11x17 ss cleaver, teflon coated. i'd like to get a little more speed, but wouldnt we all :D i get 35mph now, i'm not too concerned with the reverse speed as long as i can reverse.

catfish1,

Do you have any trouble reversing now with the Smart Tabs installed or not?

Sincerely,
MJ Thomas
Bennett Marine, Inc.
Client Services
trimtabs@earthlink.net
www.bennetttrimtabs.com

Re: cleaver prop?

The basic idea of a cleaver is its a "stern" lifter. We use them a lot on air entrapment hulls where we arent concerned about gaining bow lift. A lot depends on the rake angle too. A true cleaver is a surfacing prop. IE -- to be most efficient the blade tips need to surface or come out of the water at the top of the revolution. Therefore a true cleaver is usually best run at an very high X dimension.

Good luck!

Just hit the "Down" button of the hydraulic jackplate and itll be fine. Always worked for us.

DHadley's right about the surface piercing aspect. You're throwing your money away if you don't jack that puppy up. If you want to keep the prop submerged, stick with a round-ear through-hub prop...
- Scott
