Clicking/Knocking Noise at Idle

Hi all, first post here. I recently picked up a 1985 Century Mustang II that needed quite a bit of work. Before doing any work to it I took it out on the lake for a test drive and it was leaking water into the boat through the bellows. After further inspection the bellows were all torn up. So I just finished replacing the ujoint bellows, exhaust bellows and the shift cable bellows along with the gimbal bearing and the impeller amongst a multitude of other things. After doing all of this, I fire up the engine with muffs on to see how everything runs after all that work and I hear a loud clicking/knocking sound that kind of sounds like it it coming from the propeller area (see YouTube link below). I am new to boats and am learning as I go so I have no idea what this could be, as it didn’t make the noise before replacing anything. Let me know your thoughts, and thank you! Oh and it’s an MCM 470 (3.7L, 4 cyl.) with an Alpha One drive. Let me know if I forgot to add any details. Thanks.

Sounds like either the shift linkage is not adjusted quite right or the exhaust shutter is bare metal and pounding on the exhaust pipe inside. The shutter is coated with rubber, pings pretty loud when the rubber gets burned off.

Thanks for the response! I decided to adjust the shift cable and everything works great now. Thanks for the help!
