okay so i have a 1983 cvx glastron carlson. great boat but ive had a recent problem. it does not turn over. ive replace the solenoid thinking that was it due to the clicking noise and the fact i can bipass the solenoid to turn it over. change it. still have the same thing going on. im thinking its the ignition switch bc it clicks only when i push the key in. push-to-choke ignition. but when i rotate the key to ignite it does not make any noises what so ever. so i think it is the ignition switch. but id like to have some more ideas b/c ive spent enough on this boat for now.

What sort of engine do you have in there, padleout?

Reminder: Changing parts is the most used, most expensive and least effective troubleshooting method known to man.

Mr. Obvious choices: clean battery terminals, corroded cables, terminals loose or corroded on the starter, check for loose terminals or corrodion. tired battery. Had to throw them out since they weren't mentioned.

Funny thing about corrosion, loose wires, etc. etc.
It just gets to a point that it quits. It can work first thing out and not work the next time you turn the key. There is little warning as to when something will stop.

To echo the afore mentioned steps, trouble shoot everything. Even look for a loose wire on the ignition switch. If you are sure that it IS in the ignition, you can check it by "hot wiring" at the switch itself.

Again, to echo, anyone can replace parts and hope they got it right, but knowing which part to replace ensures it is right.
