[/IMG]I have a Clinton j9 1101 ser#24135 what year is this engine and how do I know if the water pump is pumping. when I started it I saw some water coming out the where the small holes were. I'm new to boat engines as you can tell. Pumping to the lower unit not the engine
The Clinton K900 that I have will mist water out a relief hole in the leg. Not a stream of water but a mist. The impeller was bad on mine. This one has a water cooled leg and an air cooled power head. Maybe yours is the same. I hope yours is more reliable than mine.
I can't pinpoint the years but the J9 5hp. first appeared in 58 and ran through to 68.
Becoming the one year AJ9 and BJ9 in 69.Aircooled Clinton power head with a water cooled leg using a pump. These changed very little over the years. As suggested water should mist out the relief holes on the leg.Clinton production ended about 1980.These at their best are adequate performers and have a reputation for finicky operation.Make as little investment as possible. Also keep an eye on cooling and I wouldn't change the pump unless it fails. If pump fails on the water reduce speed
power head should be ok till you get to shore. Then you can decide if its worth the investment to keep it running.
Thanks guys, it is misting out the holes on the leg, I got it for 30.00,so I couldn't pass up the buy. I am thinking of getting an old Scott Atwater 5 hp for 35.00 no fire but I like to tinker.
