Help!!! Clogged gear oil vent hole??? I was changing the gear oil in my outdrive. I pumped a quart and a half into the drive. Nothing was coming out the vent hole in the top. I saw the gear oil being pushed back into the quart, through the pump. Still, nothing is coming out the vent hole. I had no choice but to remove the pump hose from the fill hole. Needless to say, I got a gear oil blast to the face! Any suggestion how to unclog the vent hole?

Please forgive me, I am new at this. This is my first boat, and I didn't plan on buying a boat. It just kind of happened. It is a 1996 Sunbird Corsair. 4.3GL Volvo-Penta. It has a SX Cobra outdrive. Prod. No. 3868389 Ser. No. T0808942. Hope that helps. I have read about sight glasses and overflow reservoirs, but I don't see anything on mine like that. If that is not the info you need, tell me where to find it and I will get it for you. (yes, I am a rookie)

You need to remove the plastic cover and on the back there is a screw that needs to be removed. This is the vent hole. Then resume pumping until the oil oozes out the upper vent hole, then cap and reinstall the cover. I recommend internet searches and youtube for help.

Worked like a charm. Thank you very much. Now, don't I feel stupid? :ambivalence:
