I download my banking activity to my personal home computer. When I'm finished, I "logout" of the account and hit the red X on AOL to close the banking site but keeping AOL open.
The bank site recommends that I close my browser. Does that mean that I should also sign out from my internet service too?
I've been doing this in this manner for years but am a little confused about what they mean by "Closing my browser".

Yeh, I'm stupid, but at least I admit it.:D

As long as your logged out of your account it should be safe, I just log out and continue on I don't think signing off the internet is necessary.

But then again there's not much at stake in my account, and my credit is no good so I'm pretty well set!

Re: Close my browser?

Closing your browser just means closing Internet Explorer, Firefox, or whatever program you use to surf the internet. The reason they suggest closing the browser is that most will store web pages you visited locally on your hard drive so if you go back, it loads up much faster. When you close your browser, these temporarily saved web pages are usually cleared out so if you go back to your bank website, you will have to re-enter your account and password.

And, since the web pages and cookies are stored (cached) on your hard drive - the suspicion is that someone (another web site) might be able to look at them. When you close your browser, this is cleared so at least that (theoretical)vulnerability is removed...
