Hey guys - what system do you reccommend to closed cool an OMC Ford 5.0? The engine is carbureted and has center rise manifolds. I am looking for a block only system.

Thanks!

Well,

San Juan Engr has great half and full systems.

If the engine has ever been in salt or is pretty old (more than a few years/over 100hrs ) it's generally not suggested to do closed cooling. People have done it though. I'm guessing there's not a lot of salt water around Fresburg!

Here's where I bought mine.... http://www.oceaneastmarine.com/freshwater.html

cheers,

Rick

Glad it worked out! I shopped more than 10 places that sold those things. They had the best deal and even though I bought it from them it was shipped from "up the street" in Bellingham, wa.

Now you need to work on replacing that OMC!!:p

Regards,

Rick

Yeah it's not cheep...:(

I have about $5k in my 454/Bravo III swap out. The king Kobra is still sitting on a pallet in the shop....Nothing wrong with it....no engine though. Sold it to a friend and he's putting it in a Ford Pickup!

This is also an update to this thread:

Hey guys - here is an update to my original post.

Well, I decided to buy the boat. I was able to talk the previous owner down a couple thousand dollars so I feel that I got a good deal. I did a repower with a new Ford 302 and installed a closed cooling system. EVERYTHING on the motor is new except the intake manifold and the tin. I checked the screws in the transom as sugested by others and no rot was found. Even the stringers are solid.

Right now I am in the process of re-wiring the motor and boat. I purchased a new Mallory marine distributor but I am woried about the compatability with the OMC shift interupt or whatever they call it. The new distributor came with directions on building the circuit to make it compatible but I would like some feedback from you guys. Has anyone else done this conversion? What were your results?

Thanks!

Motor looks great, I had a 302 in my old 1970 Ford Torino, it was a good running motor that we got over 140000 miles out of...
You know I'd just use the old style OMC points n condenser distributor, it works fine with the ESA, so what if you have to pop in a set of points n condenser every couple of seasons....Simple and easy to fix if something goes wrong.
One thing about OMCs....you don't want to tempt fate with the ESA not working....
