Cloudy blue stuff?

I am pretty sure that the cloudy blue stuff coming out of my foot is not a good thing, and that smell, smells like propane gas. I have a 200 HP (3.0 L) Optimax 1998, and have been looking for a new or rebuilt foot. Does anyone know where I can find out which years or horse powers are compatible with my motor? Thanks a bunch!

Cloudy blue stuff, as in smoke? Are you running it out of water? Do you have it on muffs? Cloudy blue smoke coming out of the center of the prop is normal. The blue is from the oil. What is wrong with the lower unit that you need a new one?

My fault, that clouldy bule stuff is the lower unit oil. I have noticed it coming from where the lower unit bolts to the mid section. When I put it in gear, it will kill the motor with a loud clunk about 1/2 of the time. The other half it does just fine. My idle rpm's are running 550. Was going to try and fix myself, but if I buy the tools I need, that will run me around 3000.00 bucks! Anyway, thanks for the responce.
