Happy 4th everyone !!

1978 Glastron Carlson CVX16SS 4cylinder inline GM.. MC1 outdrive.

So the little sucker runs good.... I've been able to pull my kids a bunch this week. The smiles on thier faces as they get pulled around the lake on a tube is... well... awesome.

I do have a mechanical problem that I'm trying to figure out tho... The motor is strong and at high speeds she flys right along. The problem I'm having is a "Clunk" occurs when accelerating. as i come up you hear and feel a cluck, only one time at first then a few days later it has been doing it slightly more often.. It use to do it just once. but now i hear it sometime twice or a third time. Happens only in the beginning then never comes back until you come down off plane and the go back up. like a torque thing. once it is mated it is well , locked in from torque.. I think?

Sounds and feels like slippage, then something "Locks in" I almost wanna say it's in the clutch dog assembly cuz that is kinda what it sounds like. But in all reality it most probably is the coupler. Anyone want to talk about this so i can understand it a bit more.

I know that i am probably damaging something but I'm not stripping her down on the fourth when the kids are smiling and having a blast. (me too).
So what do you think? after everyone has had a good week and everything is back to some type of normal....pull the lower unit and do another alignment? this is what i am planning but where should i look for tell tale indications of misalignment?? or other areas i should look to tell me more on what is going on. I can live with a clunk but i fear it will eventually turn into a Ka-pow.

Thanks and Happy 4th of July Boating.
