First, great forum, lots of good info and people here.
This 30hp Mariner was sitting for about a year.
I fired it up, started pretty quickly but, there is a "clunking" noise when throttled past idle ("while floating" I think is the term). I have not attempted to put in gear.
More info:
It runs rough when this happens and shakes a bit. It sounds mechanical to me like coming from the top of the motor but, being a two stroke and my unfamiliarity with them, I was thinking it could indeed be carburetor related but, I was really leaning towards something awry under the flywheel.
Water pump was just replaced before the boat was docked. The water flows well, I am familiar with running small outboards due to fishing in weedy areas. I can rebuild my motorcycle engine so, I am a little mechanically inclined but, bow to those who know outboards, I know little there.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
