Clutch dog wear

I am just about ready to disassemble the lower unit in my '78 15Hp Evinrude. If the clutch dog is worn, should I be able to see the wear? Thanks.

yes, it will not be square where it has slipped.

The wear will be quite obvious, the corners of the dogs "ears" should be nice and square, if they are rounded off and burred it may need replacement.<br />If you're lucky it'll be just the clutch dog ears that are worn, and not the corresponding ones on the gears themselves.
