Clymer vs. Merc manual timing spec for 2.5L 4 cyl

I've got a 1986 Sea Sprite so the engine is at least that old. Clymer says 4 degrees BTDC and the Merc manual (Sevice manual #10) I pulled from the internet says 8 degrees BTDC (!) Any clue which it is? thnaks...

8, never believe a Seloc or Clymer's.....

8 unless it knocks..... then 4.... there's definitely been fuel changes since 86
