hello everyone, new to the forum, my name is ryan and in need of some help. long story, i had a day of days last week duck hunting when everything went wrong with my boat. my cmc jack plate was barely working when i launched the boat. i tossed it up to cold weather and not full battery charge. after going on 2nd or 3rd retrieve with the boat my jack plate stopped in the up position and cannot get it to go down. around the same time i believe i spun the hub on my 1963 evinrude sportwin 10 hp prop (motor wont go faster then idle if you give some throttle engines just revs high rpm but goes same speed.) so now I got a boat with the prop barely in the water that barely moves and a trolling motor that doesnt work. I figured it was connection a problem to battery but everything seems to be connected and the lights and depth finder still work fine. the shear pin is still good on the prop so i ordered a new prop and hope that takes care of that issue. my main concern is figuring out what is wrong with my jack plate. when i move the toggle switch up and down in the garage i can hear both 40 amps clicks so dont believe it to be a connection problem with battery. I replaced the circuit breaker (not sure if right name) due to watchin a youtube video. did not fix anything. I believe the issue is somewhere in last foot /1 1/2 of cord where the male and female connection is or the main cord that goes directly into jack plate. as much as I want to resolve the problem immediately i would settle for maunally lowering the motor so i can be back in the game for duck hunting this week. I read an owners manual i downloaded off line and it said to turn a 1/4 hex bolt a half turn on the bottom port side to manually lower the motor. this did not work. any help you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated. i need to get the motor lowered so im still in the game for duck season. I would like to fix the enitre thing but that can wait for warmer days as long as the boat is operational. thank you!

Just take the jack plate off until you get it figured out and put the motor directly on rhe transom. And with luck like that always carry a set of oars!

thats exactly what i ended up doing. I tried attaching the last foot of cord directly to the battery to see if it was a connection issue. the jack plate was still dead. At this point im probably going to have to buy a new plate. with the jack plate off and a new prop, motor works fine so im still in the game for the rest of duck season. have not had time to mess with the trolling motor but oars are an effective back up for the time being.

Maby the motor on the jack plate took a dump. If you can get to motor off maby it can be rebuilt by a local alternator and starter rebuilder? Instead of a whole new plate.

Is it an older model with separate motor and hydraulic ram or a newer one with the self-contained actuator? The older ones have no parts support but the motor can be rebuilt. The newer ones you need to buy the whole new $$$ actuator.

Before going into the motor, check the relays. Just because they click doesn't mean they are passing current through them. Replace the relay or even swap the two relays and try again. If it still doesn't work, then look into the actual motor driving the jack plate. You have to prove things are good or bad first. Guessing cost money! JMHO
