Finally got my engine off the boat, and have to say that the original tilt/trim unit is an overall mess. Not worth the cost of re-building, I'm thinking. Does anyone have specific knowledge or experience with the CMC PT-130 self-contained unit? This is the link:

Not certain I am reading the description correctly, but it sounds as though this one unit replaces everything I now have for the original tilt/trim for my '79 Mercury 115 hp motor. I would just have to bolt the motor to this unit, wire it up, and away I go .... more, or less.

Am I reading the info incorrectly?

It is a decent tilt unit, but as a trimmer it is poor. No slow speed for trimming and most of them leak down on plane.

I'm assuming you mean leak ... water?

No. They simply drift down as seals inside leak. They won't hold trim.

That's good information to know. Roughly how long before that happens?
